Two months ago I was approached by Peter Harrison to give a small speach at the 1st Professional Services Internationalisation Conference at Coventry University. The aim of this event was to provide professional service staff a forum where they could discuss and find out how they could get more involved in internationalisation. I was about to fly away for winter break, however I decided to change my plans and saty for the conference. I though this may be a great opportunity to share my experience and perhaps have some influence on how the future new international faculty members are suported in their relocation process.
The conference was split into two identical sessions; one running between 9.00am – 1.30pm and one running from 12 noon – 4.30pm. I delivered my speech as part of the Storyville workshop, where both students and staff presented their experiences on how it is to live in Coventry, how did we end up here, what are the differences between UK and our ome countries, what services would we need to help us deal with these differences better, and so on.
